When Can Babies Get Their Ears Pierced?
The short answer is YES.
At Rowan, we are all about safety and celebration. Now let us tell you why it is safe to get your baby’s ears pierced at Rowan.
You’re thinking about getting your baby’s ears pierced, you’re excited, but also a little worried. We know, we get it. While it is an exciting milestone, it also brings up all kinds of concern.
Will it be safe, will it heal soon, what does the aftercare look like, what age is the best for ear piercing? You’re probably in research mode, we would be too, but let us put your mind at ease.
What is the best age for ear piercing?
Honestly, it is a personal choice.
In some cultures parents choose to get their little one pierced as an infant. And other times, parents wait until their kid is older so they can take care of their newly pierced ears. But regardless of your child’s age, it is most important to make sure you choose the safest option to get their ears pierced by a licensed Nurse or a doctor.
Where Can I Get My Baby’s Ears Pierced? Does Rowan pierce babies?
Yes! We pierce all ages, less than one year old to over a 100 years old.
We pierce babies over the age of 2 months. For piercings on children under 5 years old, we require one DTaP vaccine, which is administered at 2 months old.
And for minors under 18, a parent or guardian is required to be present for the piercing.
We are recommended by a pediatrician for many reasons. Our earrings are hypoallergenic and nickel-free, which is important because many young children have a sensitivity to nickel. Moreover, our earrings have been specifically designed with all ages in mind, from young child to advanced aged.
What health and safety measures are being taken in the store?
At Rowan, safety is standard.
Here, all ear piercings are performed exclusively by a licensed Nurse and our hypoallergenic earrings are made from premium, nickel-free metals. Rowan nurses are trained in creating a stress-free environment, and are experts in the use of PPE and maintaining sterility. They always put the safety of their clients first.
Rowan nurses are amazing with kids and they’re experienced in ear piercing for kids and infants. They make every ear piercing memorable and super special!
Does Rowan use piercing guns?
No, absolutely not.
Rowan nurses use a hand pressurized device which is a gentle, disposable, single-use, pre-sterilized stud and clasp ear-piercing system—it is considered a medical device.
We never use piercing guns, which are spring loaded and can damage the ear tissue. At Rowan studios, we also offer piercings with a hollow needle. Both the hand pressurized device and the hollow needle are safe and accurate when in the hands of a trained professional.
For kids, we recommend the hand pressurized device, because it is a faster process compared to needle piercing, it helps with needle phobia and changing jewelry is easier with this kind of piercing.
And each Rowan ear piercing ends with a certificate of bravery that your kid can hold on to forever to make the experience that much more memorable.

How To Clean Baby Ear Piercings: Aftercare
Aftercare should never be an afterthought.
When it comes to ear piercings the biggest concern is the risk of infection. This risk can be mitigated by carefully selecting the right professionals, location, AND by following the aftercare instructions.
Here are a few simple steps to ensure optimal healing.
- Always wash your hands before touching your earrings.
-
Clean your piercing with our Aftercare Solution 2 to 3 times a day for 30 days—front and back.
For lobe piercings only, rotate earring 1x after cleaning while wet. - Leave room in front and back of the earrings.
- Disinfect everything that goes in, on, or around your ears once daily to decrease the risk of introducing bacteria to the site. This includes headphones, airpods, eyeglasses, sun glasses, head bands, etc.
- Prevent mask related infections by washing or changing your mask frequently.
- To avoid your piercing from closing, wear earrings consistently for at least one year post piercing.
