What to Do If Your Child’s Earring Falls Out
Simple steps to keep new piercings comfortable, open, and healing properly
At Rowan, we know that even with the best care, earrings can sometimes come loose. If your child’s earring or earring back falls out, don’t panic. Acting quickly and calmly can make all the difference in keeping their piercing comfortable and healthy.
Act Quickly to Keep the Piercing Open
The body treats a new piercing like a small wound, which means it can begin to close surprisingly fast, especially if the ear has been pierced for less than a year. If an earring comes out, gently clean the earring with alcohol, wash your hands with soap and water, and spray the ear with Advanced Aftercare. Then, reinsert it into the piercing as soon as possible. To help the earring slide through healing tissue more easily, you can apply a small amount of Rowan Gel - our sterile, water-soluble gel designed to help earrings move smoothly without risking irritation at the piercing site.
Replacing the earring promptly helps minimize discomfort and may prevent the piercing from closing, which could otherwise lead to the need for re-piercing. If you meet resistance or your child experiences significant pain, stop and reach out to your nearest Rowan, and come into the studio as soon as possible, and we’ll check out the piercing site to ensure it’s healing well.
Clean and Care for the Piercing
Once the earring is back in place, proper aftercare is key. Use your Rowan Advanced Aftercare Spray to clean the piercing two to three times a day. This helps support healing, reduce irritation, and keep the area clean as your child’s ears recover.
