Can You Swim After Getting Ears Pierced?
Essential Tips & Piercing Aftercare
Can I swim with a fresh new ear piercing?
The short answer is: Yes – but there is a catch.
You must have your aftercare with you to clean your piercings when you’re finished swimming….
AND
Only swim in clean bodies of water such as chlorinated pools. We checked in with our Medical Advisory Board, who also says it’s okay to go to the beach with new piercings but that you need to take extra care to ensure it’s clean when you’re out of the water.
It’s really important for your ears to heal healthily. After all, ear piercing is essentially a medical procedure. While your piercing is healing, it’s best to avoid lakes, ponds, rivers, creeks, and any other unclean water source.
Why is piercing aftercare solution so important?
Safety is standard at Rowan because healing happily is key when getting a new piercing. All that effort would be for nothing if the piercing was not taken care of.
In order to heal healthily, we offer a dermatologist- and pediatrician-tested Advanced Aftercare, which is pH-neutral for skin and safe for all skin types and sensitivities.
When you get out of the water, simply spray the front and back of your ear piercing and allow the spray to air dry.
What if I don’t have my piercing aftercare solution with me?
If you forgot to pack your Advanced Aftercare it’s best to keep your ears from being submerged in any body of water, including pools. After a long day outside, be sure to rinse your piercing well under the shower to help keep your skin clean.
Are there any swimming restrictions after my piercing is almost healed?
After the initial healing period (around 3-8 weeks), you are free to swim in any body of water as you please. But make sure to bring your Advanced Aftercare with you and then clean your new piercings once you’re finished with your favorite summertime activity.
